Google+’s Pintrest for Instagram

Instagram, Pintrest, Foursquare, QR Codes, Wikis, podcasting, Google+ and StumbleUpon. What are do all of these have in common? They are all social media platforms. Social media platforms originally are for the average person to use. People at home connecting with friends, meeting new friends and even just sharing their thoughts/pictures with the world. But now, social media is so much more than just connecting with your friends. Now companies are using these platforms to catch consumers eyes, interest them in their product and then get feedback. All of these social media tools have changed the way companies advertise. It used to be that a company would have commercials and billboards, there was not too much feedback from the customers, but with all of these new tools and windows companies have to reach the public, it has become a two way street. Companies can now advertise, show their products and get feedback all on the same website.

If I were to advertise for my company today with one of these companies, personally I would use Instagram and Google+. Instagram is a rapidly growing social platform where anyone with an android, iphone or ipod touch can take pictures of anything using certain filters and borders to customize it to their liking. For companies, this means that they could show their product in many different angles with color filters to make it appealing to their customers. For example, if you are a sports memorabilia company, trying to sell hats, jerseys, etc. What better way to show a variety of signed football jerseys then in a shadow box on your home page for all of your followers to see, You can put up pictures off all of the best memorabilia you own so that all of your avid followers can see what you have, new or old. Personally, as a huge sports fan, who likes to but the occasional hat or jersey would love to have a local company that would do something like this just so that I could see what the latest lines of football jerseys and hats were that they got into the store. It would let me see what they have and when I saw something I like I would be going there as soon as soon as possible to pick it up.

Google+ is very different from Instaram, in a way it is more like Facebook, but it did not catch on in the same way. I have had a Google+ account for a few years and never really used it, but when I go on it the odd time, there are usually some interesting things to see. On the home page, there are always the latest trends and news articles that are big in the world and being talked about. Also instead of Facebook where you just have all of your friends, in Google+ you can sort your friends into “circles”. If I were to follow companies on Google+, I could put all of the companies that I follow into one circle, and this means that when I go into this circle, all I would see is the posts from the companies I have placed in this circle. This would be useful because it organizes things in a way that Facebook doesn’t. Someone can have all of their school friends in one circle, work in another then companies. Once again in the sense of sports memorabilia, you can post what you are getting in your shipments, the latest line of Green Bay cheeseheads you just got in, and when you post this, everyone who has you in a circle would be able to see these, then comment on them so that you could see what the public is showing their interest in. With this feedback you can change the way you order and realize what is in demand. You can really refine the way you order to meet the customer’s wants and needs.

In conclusion, all forms of social media are growing in this day and age. Most people are getting their information and looking for information online and not as much in newspapers and on tv. This changes the way that companies have to advertise and reach out to their customers. The companies that are not keeping up, are falling behind. Therefore these examples in this blog post are just very small ways that companies can use social media platforms to reach out to their customers and show them what they are doing with their company, and in return the customers can comment and help improve the satisfaction level. I do not personally use many of these social media tools, but I know many people that do. A lot of people that I know using these tools as well find things that they like and make purchases because of that. So I do not know firsthand how effective this is, but I have seen it working in action, and it truly is the way that advertising will be moving towards in the future.


Pet Pawsitive Video Advertising

Pet Pawsitive is a specialized pet company that is all about training animals and treating them right. Their focus is primarily of the animal first. When you have a company like this the best way to advertise is to appeal to animal lovers. I would go about doing this by making many videos showing some of the exercises that you do with the animals and just displaying all of the good things you can do with the animals. This will also show the customers what will come out of the training that they will be paying for. In the food aspect, commercials for animal food are all pretty similar and there is not too much you can do about that. One advertisement that is different then all the rest though are the whiskas temtations videos. Those are very different and quite interesting videos that appeal to all animal lovers. They include things like, when you shake the bag, the cat knows that there are yummy treats in there and will do anything to get them. Something like that for the food would be a good way to advertise. Pretty much in some way showing that the animal will love the food that you are selling.

To show all of your customers the attention their animals will be getting, a behind the scenes video is necessary, this video should include showing all of your facilities and your trainers in the video so the potential customers will see where they are sending their dogs and let them see the face of the people that will be training them. It is a very over used idea, but that’s cause it works, and what I’m talking about is obviously you have to have a video of a pet owner with their dog and the trainer, teaching the dog something with a smile on the face of the owner and the employee. This is what people want to see in every commercial because it gives them the feeling that they will be happy there with their animal if they decide to take it there. One key part to any company that you must have is a good slogan, at the start or end of every video there must be a slogan that people will hear, remember and think of your company.

In conclusion, advertising for a company is not too hard. The hardest part is really trying to be unique, The way the world is today, everything is advertised on signs, videos and radio, so the hardest part is making yours stand out so that people will think of your company instead of another company. The necessities are a good slogan, happy people and pets in your videos, and just making sure that you show off everything good that your company does that makes it truly stand out, For example Pet Pawsitive raises money for the community every year in the form of events and fundraisers, don’t be afraid to let your potential customers know this. You never really know what could end up attracting future customers to your store instead of another. Every little thing could make a difference, so don’t cut any corners. Always Fresh Always Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons, the fuel for Canadians. Everyone at some point in their life goes to Tim Hortons, some go a few times a year and some even go a few times a day. No matter how often you go to Tim Hortons, there is always a friendly smile and great service! This blog post is not all about the company but actually about how well they use their Facebook page to connect with their loyal customers. Admittedly I have not liked or followed a company on Facebook before because that is not the reason that I use Facebook personally. I work at Tim Hortons and I know that they are very big on customer satisfaction so when I learned that my post needed to be about a company using Facebook, I knew that Tim Hortons would be a great start. Right when I got onto their Facebook page it blew me away. I have seen all of the commercials on TV and I work in the store so see all of the posters on a regular bases but this Facebook page pulls all of it together in a user friendly page.

Tim Hortons is always coming out with new feature food and drinks as well as promoting current products by putting them on specials. Last week when I first read this assignment and realized that I had to write about a company I went on to the Tim Hortons Facebook page and saw that there was a special on all of our small specialty hot drinks before I even went into work. I got news on my own job from Facebook before I worked there and that’s impressive. Right now its caramel month, right when you go on their page the first thing you see is  fall colors and all of their caramel bagels, danishes and many other baked treats. Right now they are also promoting the Tims Photo Tour, this is something they do every year to ask the customers to show what they love about Tim Hortons in the form of a picture. Currently on their wall, if you browse the page you can see all sorts of pictures from loyal customers all over Canada showing their loved Tim Hortons moments and products.

Finally after all of the fun pictures and advertisements, comes the contests and comments. They have a contest going on right now called the every cup contest. It requires you to take a picture of your Tims coffee in your hometown, this simple task can win you free coffee for a year or a $5000 dollar trip. This page also offers a place where all of the Tim Hortons fans can comment on upcoming events and products. This offers a place for people to talk about what they like, comment on pictures and just share with other avid Timmies lovers what their passion is. Not only can people comment and talk to each other, but there are always the posts that people have on certain products that they would like to see in the near future. One of the big products that I get a lot of comments on a regular basis is out apple cider, and just looking on the Tim Hortons Facebook page I can see that it is not just a local thing, there are people commenting from all over Canada that more locations should serve apple cider. This really lets the customers have a voice and an opinion on what they are going to see in their stores and Tim Hortons is very proud of their customer loyalty and will do most anything to maintain it.

In conclusion, I am very impressed with Tim Hortons Facebook page. It is very appealing and efficient for everything that they are trying to do with it. Even for me, who does not follow any companies on Facebook just because that’s not what I use it for, could see myself following more companies if they used their page like Tim Hortons does. Their specials are easy to find, the contests are well advertised and links are included if you ever want to get involved and there are pictures everywhere that catch the eye and make you want to look at the rest of the page!
